Do you believe in aliens?

Do you believe in Aliens? We were asked to make some alien birthday cookies for a guy who is still a kid at heart.  These were fun and we tried to match the “alien” to his company logo.  We think these could be really fun for Halloween too!

Here’s the “Alien Heads”….they are shiny because they are still wet!

If only we could really make them glow….

Here’s the finished set of cookies:

Mustache Mania

If you’re looking for some fun party ideas for your little one or for an adult who never grew up … how about some ties and mustaches! The theme of this party was “Little Man’s Birthday” and aside from the temperamental cutters, we had great fun making these silly treats. We can only imagine the photo ops that ensued!

S’More Fun!

We made s’more cookies for a camping themed birthday party! You can check out the blog at “Glorious Treats” for a tutorial on how to make these cookies.  We didn’t have the same cutter so we used a square and hand cut the edges.

We had so much fun with these, we made “s’more” for our kids’ teachers on the first day of school. Our notes read, “Looking forward to S’MORE fun this year.”  The kids were super excited to give these to their teachers.  Hope your school year is off to a good start too! – Elaine & April

Fleur-de-Lis for a Bridal Shower

Do you know what a fleur-de-lis is?  When I showed my brother these cookies he asked me why I was routing for the Saints! We made these for a black and white themed-bridal shower, accenting them with the bride’s favorite color, purple.

We used white sugar pearls on the tie of the flowers and to our purple outline, we added a shimmer by making a wash with some disco dust! Individually wrapped, these cookies were used as party favors. We’re already thinking these could be really fun for Mardi Gras 2013!

We have our Mardi Gras masks ready…

Hello Kitty Birthday

Happy 2nd Birthday to our little cousin!

Her parents wanted a Hello Kitty theme with all the bells and whistles.  They went all out on the dessert table…complete with sushi Rice Crispy treats made by her dad, an awesome cake made by her mom, and some of our custom cookies! We made message cookies that said “Happy Birthday” and “Audrey’s Two.”  We also made number “2” cookies and some sprinkled hearts.  The dessert table look impressive and tasted just as great!

Here’s another look at the cookies….

Olympic Fever 2012

What’s your first Olympic memory?  Mine was in 1984 when the Olympics came to Los Angeles! I’ll never forget when my dad got tickets to “Team Handball.” That is when I learned that team handball is not a game played against the back wall at elementary school.

In the spirit of helping our kids get into the spirit of the Olympic Games, we decided to engage in some preparation fun and help them forge their first Olympic memories. So, we had each of our five kids pick a country to follow. Then they each made flags of their country and we made a “Medal Count” poster to track the progress.

Next, we’re getting ready for the pomp and circumstance of the Opening Ceremonies and the Parade of Countries. For this, each child will choose a food dish from their country to serve at our party. (Thank goodness they picked Japan…we’ll get to have some sushi!)   We’re getting into the spirit here, the buzz of excitement is already felt and certainly will be as we wait for the Olympic flame to be lit … of course, no party of ours would be complete without some special cookies!

So … what are you planning to do? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Fireside Chat

What a fun theme to explore in the world of cookies, so many choices – the moon, the stars, midnight skies, tents, s’mores galore, camp fires – why not a little bit of everything!

Here is the start of the camping cookies…

Here’s the finished product….the sky and grass just makes it pop and come together.

Say, “Cheese!”

Happy Birthday to my cousin Shelly! I couldn’t think of a better birthday present than celebrating Shelly’s love of photography (check out her work/blog at waldmanphotography.com).

What kind of cookies should we make for a photographer? What comes to your mind first when you think of taking pictures? “Say Cheese”, of course.  We honored that tradition with some camera and cheese cookies! We’re so proud of how the cameras came out.

We made message cookies honoring the age old saying.

We made some real cheese too!

The next set of message cookies says, “Click, Snap, Smile.”

Now for our favorite…the camera.

Since this was for a birthday, we threw in some “Happy Birthday” too! Here is the set. Say, “Cheese!”

Happy Birthday Shelly…Hope you get to do a lot of cheesy things!

Wine Divas!

A group of ladies were hitting the road for a wine tasting getaway! How fun to escape from the kids and enjoy the beautiful vineyards. We think these cookies came out so great you might even mistake them for the real thing…ha ha ha!

First you need the wine…so here are two wine bottles to get the party started…oh…and don’t forget the cheese.

Next, grab the glasses and fill them up…

How about some grapes…wouldn’t it be nice if there was actually someone to feed them to you?

Grab your swim suit to enjoy all of this pool side…

Here is the party tray! No whining that you didn’t get any.

FYI….here is how we made the grapes…we started with a bunny rabbit cutter and cut off the ears (ouch). Then attach one ear for a stem. The photos below will show the many many layers of icing. We used three different colors of purple to get the variation in color! We waited for each layer to dry before moving on to the next layer (approx 2-4 hours). The green stem was added at the VERY end after everything is dry.

Horse lovers’ baby shower…

“Lucky Baby” themed baby shower for a great couple who choose to be surprised on the gender! I love this set of cookies…..it included baby faces, horseshoes, onsies and message cookies.  Don’t you love the star on the onsies?

Here are the horseshoes. I always outline first with black piping.  I was really happy with the green color! I add the black dots while the icing is still wet so the “sink in” and are not raised on top.

The baby faces are my favorite.

The message ties it all together…

All together….
